About Us

we’re governed by the Ministry of Education

A long-time established licensed child care centre providing high-quality care.

At FUN School we believe that children are important to society for who they are and who they will become.  We foster mutual respect with the community through the promotion of a caring environment, where children are valued and given opportunities for positive development.

Each staff member is hired with great care and consideration to ensure we provide the highest quality environment. It is clearly evident that our staff members love what they do.  We appreciate our staff for their devotion, commitment, and respect toward the children, parents/guardians and their colleagues.

Each staff member is required to:

  • Be Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Undertake a criminal reference check prior to employment.
  • Have up to date immunizations.
  • Have up to date First Aid CPR-C level.
  • Sign a Confidentiality Agreement
  • Be certified in WHMIS Training.
  • Be certified in Health and Safety awareness
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and professional development workshops.
  • Familiarize themselves with all FUN School Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in the annual performance review process.

We strive to accomplish this mission in the following ways:

    • We understand the variety of ways in which children learn and develop.
    • We believe that each child is a unique individual.
    • We encourage independence and enhance self-esteem while enabling children to grow emotionally, socially, physically and cognitively.
    • We offer above Ministry ratios of staff that are Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE), who offer a high standard of education and continual professional development that supports the commitment to awareness and ongoing education in child development.
    • We provide a respectful environment, recognizing different faiths and cultures.
    • We provide a happy, caring, safe and clean environment so that children, teachers and parents/guardians can feel comfortable with FUN School.

FUN School was established in 1960 and is an independent not for profit corporation. We are licensed to operate by the Ministry of Education and adhere to the requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act 2014, (CCEYA). We are a registered charitable organization.

The Board is responsible for administrative policies, guidance and overseeing the business operation of the school.
Our Supervisor reports to the Board of Directors, arranges the programs and schedules and handles the school’s administrative duties.

Our staff also includes an Assistant Supervisor and the required number of qualified teachers and assistants to maintain the following ratios:

    • 1:5 Toddlers
    • 1:8 Preschoolers
    • 1:13 Kindergarteners

All of our programs follow an emergent curriculum, which encourages learning opportunities throughout the environment and is based on the interests of the children.  Our purposefully planned classrooms provide opportunities for children to engage in art, imaginative play, science, math concepts, building and language and literacy experiences.  We encourage the development of social, problem solving and self regulation skills.
The general atmosphere of each classroom has an air of busy interest and purposefulness, without pressure or tension.  While children are engaged in a variety of activities, they receive comfort, encouragement and reassurance from their teachers.

We are an inclusive centre, providing an environment for children of all abilities.  FUN School works with community agencies, some of which provide classroom assistance, where necessary.
We have access to agencies that specialize in early identification of children with special needs as well as access to a network of Physical, Occupational, Speech and Behaviour Therapists.
FUN School is a participant in the Region of Peel’s “Raising the Bar” Initiative, which measures three areas of quality: Best Practices, Professional Development and Quality Assurance. This is a voluntary accreditation for licensed childcare programs.

In the Kindergarten program, alongside many play opportunities, we introduce the Jolly Phonics Program to teach children their letters and sounds, adding word boxes and reading programs as children progress.
In addition, we work on fine motor skills through the Handwriting Without Tears program.
We also work on math skills and time and money concepts.
